Caring for carers with their home energy
We’re committed to ensuring our customers have warm, safe and healthy homes, and our Home Energy Service play an important role in supporting customers with their concerns. The service not only supports customers to ensure a stable and comfortable home, but also takes a proactive approach to managing the energy concerns faced by vulnerable individuals.
Recently, the team supported an elderly couple grappling with growing energy debt. Compounded by the husband’s battle with dementia, the couple faced an impractical repayment schedule imposed by their supplier.
The Home Energy Service recognised the urgency of the situation and by working with the energy supplier were able to arrange a more manageable repayment schedule. The team were also able to support the couple to understand how best to use their home energy technology to maximise its efficiency.
The team completed a benefit check which revealed that the customers were not claiming their full benefit entitlement. By supporting the customers through their application process the team have been able to maximise the couple's income.
Through this support, the team anticipate that the customers will experience significant savings, approximately £150 a year, in their home energy costs.
The couple expressed their appreciation, saying, “The service provided was prompt, professional, and meticulous in supporting us and communicating with our energy supplier.”
Greg Scott, Home Energy Advisor, adds “It’s important that we’re able to connect vulnerable customers with the support services available from Alliance Homes and across North Somerset, ensuring they’re empowered to navigate and take control of their home energy.”
The team will be supporting the customers throughout winter, and actively sign posting them to local support and our Dementia Day Centre and Carers Support service.
