Alliance Homes team conquers Welsh Three Peaks challenge to raise over £5,000 for Weston Hospicecare

A team of 33 colleagues from Alliance Homes took part in the gruelling Welsh Three Peaks challenge earlier in July, successfully hiking to the summits of the three highest peaks in Wales in one day to raise money for local charity Weston Hospicecare. 

The Welsh Three Peaks Challenge includes the highest points across the length of Wales: Pen Y Fan in the south, Cadair Idris in mid Wales and Yr Wyddfa, also known as Snowdon, in the north.  

In preparation for the event, the Alliance Homes team took part in early morning and weekend training sessions on hills around North Somerset. On the day of the challenge, five colleagues joined as support crew and drivers so the walkers could rest between each hike and arrive feeling ready to conquer the next peak.  

The unseasonal July weather posed an additional challenge, with the team facing 50mph winds on the summit of Cadair Idris and Yr Wyddfa. In 13 hours, they walked 20.5 miles and climbed a total of 7,510 feet.

Alliance Homes gas engineer, James Wotton, was the team leader for the event. He says: “It’s been such an amazing experience, from the training sessions to the team learning new skills and stepping out of their comfort zones. They were brilliant and pushed themselves beyond their limits even when it looked impossible to complete the challenge.

“We took on this challenge to remember lost friends who have recently benefited from Weston Hospicecare and the amazing work they do. It was the best day ever.” 

The team has already smashed their target of £5,000, raising £5,455 as of 15 July for Weston Hospicecare. These funds will help to provide crucial care and support for patients with life-limiting illnesses, and their families.
